세상을 바꾸고자 했던 수많은 시도들은 기존의 가치를 부정하고 그 위에 새로운 것을 덮는 방식으로 진행되었지만, 이러한 시도는 필연적인 것이 아니라면 당위적일 수밖에 없을 것이다. 

김용관 작가는 이러한 당위적 구조에 의문을 품으며 가치를 수평으로 재배열하는 것에 관심을 가지고 있다. 그는 하나의 완결된 구조를 분해하여 새롭게 재배열하거나, 임의로 만든 작은 단위의 블록들을 무작위로 쌓으며 패턴을 찾고, 그 패턴을 다시금 새로운 조합의 룰로 사용하는 일련의 작업들을 진행해왔다. 이번 전시에서 선보이는 <Cloud Spectrum>은 9개의 골판지 박스 모듈로 구성한 공간 설치작업이다. 정육면체를 자르고 변주해서 만든 각각의 모듈에는 마치 석양을 표현한 듯 화이트에서 옐로우로 이어지는 그라데이션 패턴을 담고 있다. 규칙적이지 않은 행위가 만드는 규칙성, 규칙적이지 않은 것처럼 보이는 행위 속에 숨겨져 있던 규칙성, 임의- 우연-무작위-반복-패턴이 만드는 시각 구성을 가진 이 공간을 통해 삶과 구름, 자연처럼, 반복되는 것 같지만 매 순간 변주하는 다채로운 스펙트럼을 상상할 수 있는 기회가 되길 바란다. 

Attempts to change the world have often involved denying existing values and layering new ones upon their remains—actions that ought not to be taken unless truly necessary. 

Kim is interested in the arrangement of non-hierarchical values and ask a question of normative systems within society. He deconstructs and rearranges fully formed structures, finds patterns by randomly layering arbitrary micro cubes, and uses these patterns as a new logic. 

His work, Cloud Spectrum, is space- installation composed of nine corrugated cardboard box modules. Each module, a variation carved from a perfect cube, contains a gradient pattern that fades from white to yellow, reminiscent of the colour of sunset. This space embodies the interplay of arbitrariness, chance, randomness, repetition, and pattern and it reveals hidden regularities within irregularity and order arising from disorder. Through this, you are invited to imagine a vibrant spectrum—like life, clouds, and nature—that seems repetitive yet endlessly varies every moment.
