쑨지의 작품은 우리가 보편적으로 보던 회화의 범주에서 벗어나있다. 쑨지는 날 것의 형광 안료를 캔버스 위에 사용한 회화를 어두운 공간 속에서 자외선을 투사하는 방식으로 기존의 ‘회화’와 ‘감상’에 대한 조건과 태도를 변주시킨다. 이와 같은 방법론뿐만 아니라 그는 일상을 판타지로 변모시키는 태도를 통해서 ‘새로운 회화’ 로서의 가능성을 찾고 있다. 

이번 전시에서 작가는 ‘비가시적인 영역’인 그림자 세계를 정원으로 가시화하여 표현하였다. 기존의 작품들에 사용되던 자연광과 조명에서는 그 존재를 감추다가 자외선을 비추면 가시화가 극대화되는 그의 작품은 실재와 환영, 현실과 이상의 경계를 허술하게 만들어 고정된 인식의 경계를 허문다. 기존의 회화가 가시성의 영역을 이야기한다면 그의 회화는 비가시적이던 것을 가시적으로 만들어 우리에게 지극히 보편적이던 감각을 벗어난 낯선 세계를 만들어 제시하고 있는 것이다.  

SoonJi’s works go beyond the conventional boundaries of painting. She alters the conditions and ways in which we engage with ‘painting’ and ‘viewing’ by projecting ultraviolet light onto canvases where she has applied raw neon colours in dark spaces. Beyond this methodology, she seeks the potential of ‘new painting’ through her approach of transforming everyday life into fantasy.

In this exhibition, the artist visualises the shadow world—an invisible realm—into a garden. In her works, which remain hidden under natural or artificial light, their presence becomes fully visible when illuminated with ultraviolet light. This blurring of reality and illusion, the tangible and the ideal, dismantles fixed perceptions. While traditional painting focuses on the realm of visibility, SoonJi’s works make the invisible visible, and it offers a strange and unfamiliar world beyond ordinary perception.
