박비오는 주로 사진을 통해 일상 장면을 독창적 구성으로 재해석하며 기억, 질서, 인간 경험의 복합성을 탐구한다. 

이번 전시에서 선보이는 <Memorias Suaves>은 2019년 작가가 교환학생 시절 알게 된 친구를 만나기 위해 스페인의 여러 지역을 찾으며 기록한 작업이다. 스페인어로 ‘부드럽게 남은 기억’으로 해석되는 이 시리즈는 특정 도시나 풍경의 기념사진이 아니라, 재회와 관찰이 층층이 쌓여 드러난 관계의 표정과 시선의 궤적들이다. 때로는 단 한 사람, 때로는 군중 전체로, 혼자 걷는 발걸음과 함께 걷는 발걸음 사이에서 달라지는 독특한 시선이 남아있다.

이 작품은 지극히 개인적인 이야기에서 출발했지만, 인간의 보편적 기억을 건드린다. 이별 이후 모두가 경험한 단절과 재결합은 각자의 기억에 흔적으로 남아있다. 관람자는 이 사진 속에서 언젠가 다시 만났던 친구의 얼굴, 잊고 있었던 가족의 웃음, 혹은 회상의 장소, 해방의 장소에 있는 자신의 그림자를 발견할지도 모른다. 그렇기에 이 사진들은 작가의 기록이자 동시에 우리 모두의 기억을 불러내는 장치인 것이다.

<Memorias Suaves> is a body of work recorded across various cities of Spain in 2019, when the artist revisited friends he had known during his exchange program. The title, which can be translated as <Gently Remaining Memories>, does not refer to commemorative photographs of specific cities or landscapes, but rather to traces of distinctive gaze and expressions shaped by layers of reunion and observation. Sometimes focused on a single person, other times on a crowd, his perspective shifts between the footsteps taken alone and those shared with others. 

Although the work originates from the artist’s personal memories, it resonates with universal human experiences of memory. The disconnection and reconnection that everyone has felt after a farewell remain as traces within our own recollections. Within these photographs, viewers might recognise the face of a friend once reunited, the forgotten smile of a family member, or their own shadow cast upon a space of recollection and release. Thus, these photographs are not only the artist’s personal records but also devices that evoke memories shared by all of us.
