배즈본은 회화, 일러스트, 아트토이 등 순수예술과 상업 예술의 경계를 자유롭게 넘나드는 작가이다. 1988년생인 그는 인터넷과 대중문화가 급속히 확산하던 2000년대 초반, 음악·영화·만화 등과 함께 성장하며 감각적이고 대중적인 시각문화를 체득했다. 이러한 경험은 그에게 예술과 비예술의 경계를 허무는 창작 태도로 이어졌고, 일상의 이미지를 예술의 언어로 재해석하는 원동력이 되었다. 그의 작품은 거리 예술인 그래피티에서 출발하지만, 그 ‘무단성’과 ‘반항성’을 회화적 구조 안으로 끌어들여 대중과 예술이 소통하는 새로운 지점을 만들어낸다.

그래피티가 저항의 상징으로 존재하던 영역을 넘어, 제도권 예술의 장으로 확장되는 전환의 순간, 즉 ‘뮤랄 (Mural)’이라 불리는 경계 위에서 그의 작업은 전개된다. 그는 거리의 자유로움과 회화의 서정성을 결합하며, 유년의 순수함과 폭발적 에너지가 공존하는 화면을 만들어낸다. 이를 통해 우리에게 보여줄 ‘낭만’은 과거를 미화하는 감상이 아니라 현재를 살아가는 태도이자 예술에 관한 질문인 것이다.

Bazbon is an artist who freely crosses the boundaries between fine art and commercial art, working across painting, illustration, and art toys. Born in 1988, he grew up in the early 2000s, a period marked by the rapid spread of the internet and mass culture, absorbing the sensual and popular visual languages of music, film, and animation. These experiences shaped his creative attitude towards breaking down the barriers between art and non-art, and became the driving force behind his reinterpretation of everyday imagery through the language of art. Although his work originates from graffiti — a form of street art — he draws its unauthorised and rebellious qualities into the painterly framework, creating new points of communication between art and the public.

Positioned on the boundary of the mural — a threshold where graffiti moves beyond its identity as a symbol of resistance and enters the institutional realm of art — Bazbon’s work unfolds in a moment of transformation. He combines the freedom of the street with the lyricism of painting, producing images in which childhood innocence and explosive energy coexist. For him, the ‘romantic spirit’ he seeks to convey is not a nostalgic glorification of the past, but an attitude towards living in the present — and a question posed to art itself.
